Chimpanzee Behavioral Research

Videos from Yerkes National Primate Research Center

This work was conducted during my time as an undergraduate from 2014-2017

CHIMPANZEE COOPERATION TASK

I observed videos of a cooperative task with free-roaming chimpanzees. For the task, all chimpanzees must operate the handles at the same time in order for the food to be delivered.

COMPETITION MITIGATING BEHAVIORS & SOCIAL LEARNING

In this task, the chimpanzees used a variety of enforcement strategies to overcome competition (this example shows refusal to work in the presence of a freeloader). In one study I looked at the agonistic interactions of the individuals during the cooperative experiment. In a separate study I looked at the effect of the presence of experts on the learning of novices.
